WHY THIS BLOG?

I AM PARCA'S CHOSEN:
My name is Denise Sevier-Fries (nee Buchy). Parca is the Roman Goddess of Childbirth and Destiny and after you get to know me, you will see why I believe she has, without doubt, made me her Poster Child. Come here for some serious issues, but mainly just some cheeky fun; satire with the odd parody tossed in, and a generous helping of hyperbole, with a dollop of facetiousness.

I am Canadian so expect a bit of politeness too. Sorry.

AN AMERICAN VETERAN'S LETTER OF SHAME or Proof There Are Decent Americans After All

Watching the news and reading various mediums by Americans can sometimes be depressingly depressing. But this particular veteran's letter to the world has ignited a sliver of Hope in my heart. If nothing else, it reminds me that there are indeed 'normal' Americans living in the USA fighting for decency as well as democracy, who remember who their friends are.

I thank this gentleman from the bottom of my jaded heart for this reminder. I will cling to it and be on the lookout for more of these bright and shining slivers.

*(I'm not sure where this missive was written but it is signed by the original author and is in response to our Canadian Prime Minister, Dr. Mark Carney, and his speech at Davos, Switzerland at the World Economic Forum on January 20th 2026)

I watched the Davos speech and I felt something I never thought I would feel watching a President of the United States speak on the world stage. Shame. Not policy disagreement. Not partisan frustration. Shame.

The President of the United States stood in front of the world and insulted our allies. Allies who stood shoulder to shoulder with us after September 11. Allies who sent their sons and daughters to die alongside American soldiers. Allies whose blood is mixed with ours in places like Afghanistan and Iraq. And he dismissed them. He said they did nothing.

They did not do nothing. They died.

I served in the United States military. I served honorably. I know what it means to depend on the person next to you. I know what it means to trust that someone from another country has your back in a firefight. Those men and women never came home. Their families buried them. And now the President of the United States erases their sacrifice with a careless insult, and the world watches America nod along.

What made it worse was watching a sitting Republican congressman, a former Navy SEAL, refuse to say that the President was wrong. He said he respected the allied soldiers, but he could not bring himself to criticize Donald Trump. Think about that. A man who wore the uniform, who knows what combat costs, could not say the simplest thing a leader is supposed to say when something is wrong.

When did loyalty to one man replace loyalty to truth, to honor, to country?

Trump went further. He mocked NATO. He repeated the tired lie that if America had not acted in WW2, the world would be speaking German or Japanese. That is an insult not just to our allies but to history itself. Millions of Europeans died fighting fascism before the United States entered the war. The British endured the Blitz alone. The Soviets lost over twenty million people. France fell and resisted. Poland was crushed and never surrendered. To reduce that sacrifice to a punchline is ignorance wrapped in arrogance.

And let us remember something else. NATO’s Article Five was invoked only once in history. Once. And it was invoked for the United States of America after September 11. When America was attacked, our allies did not hesitate. They did not debate. They did not say America should pay more. They came. That is the alliance this President now insults.

Then there is the absurdity layered on top of the danger. Confusing Greenland with Iceland. Floating territorial fantasies like they are barroom jokes. Slurring history and geography on the world stage while people rush in to explain it away. If any other president spoke this way, we would be alarmed. Because it is Trump, we are told to excuse it.

This is not normal. This is not strength. This is not leadership.

What frightens me most is not the speech. It is the silence that followed it. The inability of elected officials to say the obvious. The fear of criticizing one man even when he dishonors the service and sacrifice of allied soldiers who died beside Americans.

And one last question that should haunt every American who watched that speech. Did a single Republican stand up and say what Trump said was wrong? No. Not one. Because they are cowards. Because they are afraid. Because they are drinking the Flavor Aid.

Yes, Flavor Aid. Not Kool Aid. Flavor Aid.

I know the difference because I was there as a young man serving my country. I remember it. It was grape.

I am a veteran. I respect those who served and those who never came home. I respect our allies who fought and bled with us. Watching their sacrifice dismissed, and watching our representatives refuse to defend the truth, makes me ask a question I never thought I would have to ask.

Where are we living today?
